• Currently, there are some toll roads, so you can buy an automatic device in some service stations, in some of the motorways and Via Verde shops, returning the device before leaving Portugal. There are tolls on major roads serving the Algarve, including the A22.
• The traffic takes place on the right side, with priority to vehicles that present to the right or, in the case of roundabouts, vehicles which are already circulating inside;
• The documents required are: personal identification document; driving title, insurance certificate, registration certificate of ownership of the vehicle or equivalent documents, vehicle identification document (logbook) or equivalent documents;
• Fines should be paid on the spot;
• The maximum speed for vehicles without trailers and motorcycles are: 50 km / h in towns, 90 km / hour on normal routes; 100 km / hour in the car lanes, 120 km / h on motorways;
• The minimum speed on the motorway is 50km/hora;
• The use of mobile phones while driving is prohibited, except if used with speakerphone or headset devices;
• Do not drive with a blood alcohol level equal to or greater than 0.5 grams per liter;
• The use of seat belts is compulsory for all vehicle occupants;
• Children under the age of 12 years or less than 1.5 m. are obliged to travel by car with the support of a child seat;
• It is mandatory to use reflector vest when exiting a vehicle that is occupying the lane;
• The use of warning triangles is required if the vehicle is immobilized on the roadway;
• Parking on the street is not always allowed or free, there is, in many cities, parking areas that have to be paid. They are usually easy to identify because there are parking meters in the area;
• You can only park in the same direction of traffic;
• The use of dipped headlights when visibility is low, and in tunnels is mandatory;
• To rent a car you must be over 21, valid driving license for over a year and show identification (identity card for EU citizens or valid passport for other nationalities).
